A 57-year-old Durango man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Sunday, according to the Durango Police Department.
Cmdr. Jacob Dunlop said officers performed a welfare check around 5 p.m. Sunday near the 2300 block of Glenisle Avenue for a man who reportedly expressed a willingness to harm himself.
Officers found the man, identified as David McCoy, with a weapon. As they backed away, Dunlop said McCoy shot himself. Officers were unable to revive him.
La Plata County Coroner Jann Smith confirmed Monday morning the death was ruled a suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
