Durango and Ignacio school districts closed schools Monday after 8-12 inches of snow fell Sunday and more fell overnight in La Plata County.

The closure was the result of hazardous road conditions, according to an announcement made at 6:30 a.m. Monday by Durango School District 9-R.

“This decision was made in collaboration with emergency management,” the announcement said.

The closure includes school-related events and activities.

Bayfield school district held classes Monday but under a two-hour delay.
