Durango is the third community in Colorado and 61st nationwide to be identified by STAR Communities, a nonprofit that evaluates and certifies sustainable communities. The city far exceeded the minimum requirements for the 3-STAR rating, which include seven goal areas: built environment, climate and energy, economy and jobs, education, arts and community, natural systems and health and safety.
