The summer season closed for much of the Durango Swim Club at the 2014 Colorado Western Slope Long Course Championships on July 18-20 in Grand Junction.

Fifteen swimmers qualified for the meet, and six scored points by finishing in the top eight.

Haley Benjamin (14) won the 100-meter freestyle, 200-meter butterfly, 200-meter freestyle, 400-meter freestyle and 400-meter individual medley.

Brooke Kniffin (18) won the 100-meter backstroke and finished third in the 300-meter backstroke and fifth in the 50-meter freestyle.

Angela McManus (10) won the 200-meter freestyle, finished second in the 50-meter breaststroke and 100-meter freestyle, took third in the 50-meter freestyle and fourth in the 100-meter backstroke.

Quinn Schmidt (11) was second in the 1,500-meter freestyle and 12th in the 400-meter freestyle.

Iain McCourt (14) took fourth in the 1,500-meter freestyle, seventh in the 400-meter freestyle and eighth in the 200-meter freestyle.

Anne Mummery (15) took sixth in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle and 200-meter backstroke. She was seventh in the 100-meter backstroke.

Mina Willemin (12) took eighth in the 50-meter butterfly.

The DSC also entered four relay events.

Benjamin, Steevie Delio, Kniffin and Mummery took second place in the open division 400-meter freestyle relay and fourth in the 400-meter medley relay. Jessica Bowman, Ruth Holcomb, McManus and Rebecca Schmidt finished seventh in the 12-and-under 200-meter freestyle relay.

Bowman, McManus, Schmidt and Willemin were seventh in the 200-meter medley relay.

Durango Swim Club still in the zone

The season isn’t quite over for three Durango Swim Club members.
Brooke Kniffin and Anne Mummery will attend the Western Zone Senior Championships on Wednesday in Clovis, California.
Heley Benjamin is going to the Western Zone Age Group Championships on August 6-9 in Federal Way, Washington.
Both meets have qualifying times and are attended by swimmers form the western half of the United States.
