Our hostess, the ambitious “Mrs. Caroline Romney,” brought Durango’s history to life in the San Juan historical car on the Durango & Silverton railway. The views? Breathtaking! The train is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Don’t forget to check out the free museum!

We’re repeat visitors with Mild to Wild rafting. With the high water, I felt more comfortable about putting my kids in a raft when I found out the owner would not put anyone else’s kids in the water if he wouldn’t put his own out there. Our girls had so much fun on a half-day trip that they signed up for a second all-day rafting adventure! (I do hope the city finds a solution to the man-made changes at Whitewater Park.)

Purgatory’s all-day pass was the best buy”of the trip. What a joy to see how the resort has added so many summer activities for us kids of all ages. Mountain biking at Purgatory – actually, mountain biking all over the area – is phenomenal.

Finally, Francisco’s, Animas Brewing Company and SKA are always at the top of our favorite eats. Friendly staffs and great food. Till next time…
