From that perspective, it is always ironic when, the day after a vote, elected officials lament a defeat of their preference. For example, Gov. John Hickenlooper said, of Amendment 66’s defeat, “Every great social victory in the history of this country is based on a number of failures.” I believe that the only post-ballot statement an elected official is enfranchised to make is, “Vox populi. The people have spoken, and I will well and faithfully implement their decision.”
