The Daily Sentinel reports the court said Thursday that the Mesa County District Court should hold an evidentiary hearing for 56-year-old James Genrich to consider the evidence and if he should get a new trial.

Genrich was convicted of setting off pipe bombs that killed two people and injured one in Grand Junction in 1991.

Prosecutors used forensic evidence that Genrich used tools that left unique marks on the bombs. That evidence has since been found questionable.

Mesa County prosecutor Dan Rubinstein says the evidence supports the guilty verdicts and they disagree with the court’s opinion.
