Tucker’s conservative slant is immediately apparent by his judgement of the “progressive views of the Herald’s editors and Durango voters in general” as being somehow wrong. OK, so he’s a conservative living in a progressive community and doesn’t like it. Got it. As to his ideas of how a city council is expected to act regarding the will of its residents, he has managed to twist things around with inaccurate data so as to blame the council for doing its job and doing what is expected of it. He seems to think that city council should simply disregard the voted will of the people and listen to the comments of a small group of attendees at a council meeting who think they get to redecide issues they don’t approve of by showing up and being vocal. Votes were taken and counted, and local surveys were done and the majority wins. That’s how this democracy thing works. I have a feeling that if this were a different issue that conservatives were in favor of, he would not want the “local statesmen” to “stand up for the public good and say no.” Instead, he would be screaming loudly that his elected representatives were disregarding the will of the people and should be impeached. Why is it conservatives always seem to be walking alone in the wrong direction?
