STEVE LEWIS/Durango Herald – DURANGO – 12/19/14 – "The way it was passed was kind of objectionable," said Larry Zauberis, center, who said he was glad the Hermosa Creek Watershed Protection Act was passed, but did not think it should have been part of an omnibus spending bill. At left is U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton, at right is U.S. Senator Michael Bennet. The two were attending a celebration over the passage of the act on Friday afternoon at the Powerhouse Science Center.
The open house is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. March 3 at the Public Lands Center, 15 Burnett Court.
President Obama signed the Hermosa Creek Watershed protection plan in December 2014. The legislation requires the Forest Service to have a management plan for the 70,000-acre tract north of Durango within three years.
