Gulliford also posed interesting comments about the differences between the “new” West and the “old” West – something we must be aware of, as the population continues to grow. We can’t close the gate behind us, but we should honor and attempt to preserve the old traditions, even as new growth and new people come to our favorite spots – just like the shrines in the story.
