The Rodney Ems Memorial Golf Scholarship recently announced seven Four Corners seniors as the recipients of its annual scholarships for 2026. The scholarship recognizes both academic and athletic achievements of students pursuing higher education and awarded a total of $14,000 in scholarships this year.
Celia Gallavan, Ian Hastey and Austin Romero of Durango High School, Amita Crowley and Afton Unrein of Montezuma-Cortez High School, Julianne Vega of Dolores High School and Deaglan Denen of Pagosa Springs High School were the 2026 scholarship recipients. They all played on the golf team at their high school and were awarded the scholarship after demonstrating a dedication to academic success, strong leadership qualities and service to the community.
The Rodney Ems Memorial Golf Scholarship is proud to recognize these seven exceptional student-athletes for their academic and athletic achievements. The scholarship committee is confident they will continue to excel in their academic pursuits, make a positive impact in their communities and maintain their love of the game.
Celia Gallavan will be attending Colorado State University, pursuing a degree in a medicine-related field.
Ian Hastey will be studying Mechanical Engineering at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction.
Austin Romero will be attending Arkansas State University Mid-South, where he will be majoring in Business.
The Rodney Ems Memorial Golf Scholarship was established in honor of Rodney Ems, a passionate golfer and avid community supporter. Ems believed in the power of education and the values that golf instills. The scholarship is open to student golfers who are seniors from a Colorado high school in the Four Corners. Applicants need to demonstrate their love of the game of golf and how it has had an impact on their lives.
