Bayfield's Old Fashioned Christmas event has been recognized as a positive family-friendly event by the Celebrating Healthy Communities Coalition. Coalition representative Pat Senecal presented an award for the event to Mayor Rick Smith at the Jan. 5 town board meeting. The coalition is affiliated with San Juan Basin Health Department. It supports community events that promote some of 40 youth assets. The more of these assets that youths identify with, the more likely they are to make healthy choices in their life, Senecal said. The coalition also recognizes good adult role models for youth each year, with nominations for the award made by young people.
