Because attracting and retaining good people is key to a high quality police department and is a challenge for DPD because of the lower pay we offer compared to other communities, it is imperative that we give them a place to work that shows that we value and appreciate them and that keeps their morale and motivation high as well as keeping Durango a desirable option to pursue a career in law enforcement.
Their current facilities make it extremely hard to do their jobs well and does not demonstrate the support I know this community has for them. The other funding that will come from 2A is also critical to continue to maintain our roads and other infrastructure at the quality that reflects our expectations and values.
