There are myriad issues in defending and prosecuting crimes, and justice demands appropriate punishment for a criminal defendant. When the criminal is truthful about his or her crime, then the criminal punishment can be tailored to educate, punish and rehabilitate the defendant. The process cannot work without strong and fair leadership.

Many crimes involve misuse of alcohol or drugs, mental health issues, financial struggles and flawed character issues combined with poor choices that result in drastic consequences.

Mr. Champagne is a very good prosecutor and trial attorney, and he deserves the opportunity to be district attorney in Southwest Colorado.
