Clinic approved as enterprise project
The La Plata Community Clinic in Durango has been approved as an Enterprise Zone Contribution Project by the Colorado Economic Development Commission on Oct. 10.
This designation allows all donor contributions $250 or more for this project eligible for a 25 percent state tax credit on cash donations, and a 12.5 percent state tax credit on in-kind donations.
The clinic provides integrated health-care services for people who lack other access and meet national poverty guidelines. Area physicians, physician assistants, dentists and nurses donate their time serving in the clinic.
In Southwest Colorado, all of Montezuma, Archuleta, San Juan and Dolores counties are designated enterprise zone areas.
Currently, 31 projects are designated in Southwest Colorado.

Kent Curtis, president and CEO of First Southwest Bank, announces the hiring of Kevin B. O’Regan as chief credit officer.
O’Regan brings with him 38 years of banking experience, most notably holding positions as senior banker for Bank of America for southern Arizona, market president for Commercial Federal Bank in Tucson, Ariz., and chief credit officer and co-founder of Metro Phoenix Bank in Phoenix. O’Regan and his wife, Terri, recently moved to Durango after spending more than 40 years in Arizona where he also held leadership positions in several charitable and nonprofit organizations.

LEAN Office workshop to be offered Nov. 14
The Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center and Southwest Colorado Community College will present a LEAN Office workshop from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at First National Bank of Durango training Room, 259 W. Ninth St.
The fee for the workshop is $189 per person. The workshop provides a general overview of the LEAN principles and incorporates hands-on activities demonstrating how these strategies can improve a work environment. Through a combination of lecture, video and in-class activities attendees will learn LEAN concepts. Learn to focus on activities that have value to the customer and show improvements in the bottom line. The workshop is limited to 30 participants.

BID to host Coffee & Conversation
The Durango Business Improvement District in November assumes coordination of the monthly information meetings formerly known as What’s Up Downtown.
Now to be called “BID Coffee & Conversation,” the next meeting will take place from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Durango City Hall, 949 East Second Ave. All BID constituents, including those on North Main, are encouraged to attend. Each meeting also will have a topic for discussion, and November’s meeting will focus on the upcoming holiday season including the HOLiDAZZLE and Noel Night partnership, tips for creating a HOLiDAZZLE event, gift drawings, window decorating, update on Singing With Santa, tips for a successful Noel Night/HOLiDAZZLE from BID and merchants in attendance and more.
