Great Old Broads for Wilderness, a nonprofit organization based in Durango, recently hired Amy Johnston as its new office manager.
Johnston brings many years of experience managing programs, projects and office operations at nonprofit organizations. She has degrees in forestry and political science and enjoys gardening and photography.
As office manager, Johnston is responsible for a broad range of duties from financial and grant administration to providing technical and logistical support for the group’s programs and local chapters.
Great Old Broads for Wilderness is a national organization that engages and inspires the voices and activism of elders to preserve and protect wilderness and wildlands.

White Rabbit Books announces opening
White Rabbit Books & Curiosities announces its opening at 128 W. 14th St., Unit C-2.
People can buy, sell or trade. The entrance is on the back side of the Riverfront Center Building, on the Animas River Trail. The Discovery Museum is next door. The bookstore will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Books will be available in a wide variety of genres including classics, contemporary fiction, rare and collectible, metaphysical, paranormal, Southwest, history, children’s books, creative parenting/teaching, natural health and healing, cookbooks, science, biography, westerns, world religions and more – including locally blown glass, whimsical art and gifts.

Chamber to host Business After Hours
The Durango Chamber of Commerce will host Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at Pine River Valley Bank. 1701 Main Ave.

La Plata Electric to host lighting workshop
La Plata Electric Association will host a “Basics of Bulbs” workshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 12 at Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield.
People interested in learning more about new lighting technology are invited. Lunch will be served. LPEA offers a variety of lighting rebates for residents and businesses, and those options will be reviewed.
