Mumbling Marmot offers volunteer tutors
Mumbling Marmot Tutoring announces the launch of a new community service program providing volunteer tutors for math, reading or homework support for a fee of $5 per hour.
The new program uses volunteer tutors, such as high school students, fulfilling community involvement hours for their senior résumés and retired teachers, such as Gaby Chapman.
Chapman joined Mumbling Marmot to reach students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to receive tutoring. She is the author of Let Them Have Books: A Formula for Universal Reading Proficiency and was a reading teacher at a California charter middle/high school before moving to Durango. She has degrees in English and history, taught sixth- to 12th-grade English for seven years and is open to working with small groups of students in school or private settings. Volunteer tutors are assigned on a first-come basis, so a waiting list has been established.
