I regularly visited the Sunnyside Branch Library before I had children and increased my use with my children. All of us greatly benefited from this branch library! I regularly borrowed books through this branch because it was so close to my home, rather than drive 20 miles to reach the main library. With the high cost of gasoline and constraints on my time, the Sunnyside Branch Library was a blessing. Furthermore, my children continue to have a love of books and learning because of the positive experiences they had at Sunnyside Branch Library.
In addition to regularly borrowing books, Sunnyside Branch Library offered wonderful summer programs that my children loved. These summer programs helped bridge the gap between school years, and it is known that peer interactions provide an irreplaceable opportunity of learning for little ones.
This is especially true for my son, who is on the autism spectrum. Children who experience autism require peer interaction as it reaches them in ways that adults can not. Regardless, it is vital to encourage a love of reading and learning among our youth, and positive experiences in places such as a branch library do just that. We must remember that the youth of today is tomorrow’s leadership. Please keep the Sunnyside Branch Library open.
