The Democratic candidate for treasurer has a BA in accounting, an MBA, and a work history as a bank auditor, a process improvement consultant, and a sales process consultant, and software designer. She was a vice president of the La Plata County Democratic Party at the time she decided to run for treasurer. She states that she is a dedicated local volunteer, listing three organizations, but all began only after she decided to run for elected office. Her experience is focused upon accounting – the processing and recording of endless columns of numbers.
The treasurer is tasked with the collection and correct distribution of taxes. In addition, the treasurer controls the investment of county funds with the objectives of legality, safety, liquidity, and yield in mind. Both require a thorough knowledge of the county and its budgetary requirements, while the latter demands the experience and expertise of a proven businessperson. Clearly, the job demands more than someone who can add columns of numbers and put the totals in the right boxes. We need an experienced businessman and leader, not a bean-counter.
Bobby’s opponent touts being a fiscal conservative. The terms “conservative liberal Democrat” is not only an oxymoron, but reminiscent of our “I’ll protect Second Amendment rights” Democratic representative and our “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor” Democratic senator.
A careful evaluation of the requirements of the office of Treasurer, and the qualifications of the candidates shows that Bobby Lieb is by far the best choice for this important office.
