Durango’s electricity is generated mostly by the burning of coal in power plants that are far outside of the area. Thus we get the electricity while we largely do not see the air pollution that we create. The scientific consensus is clear that reducing greenhouse gases is the major challenge of our age if we want to have a promising future on Earth. It is a great challenge to reduce this pollution by switching to cleaner forms of energy generation and reducing our use of energy. Our local electric co-op LPEA must participate in this endeavor and lead when it is possible and economically feasible.

Jeff is passionate and serious in his role as board member. He is responsible for promoting positive and sensible moves toward lower carbon emissions and greater efficiency of use and conservation of valuable energy resources.

For a decade, Jeff has been a leader in promoting and developing new programs like the ability of a group to form a community solar garden – making solar available to renters, those without a good solar roof or significant funds. He has been the foremost advocate on the LPEA for energy-efficiency programs that help businesses and homeowners lower their bills in the face of rising rates, and has been vocal in pushing for positive changes at LPEA.

I believe that this election is important and that Jeff Berman is the right candidate.
