Today, local veterans organizations provide outstanding services, but they are the first to admit that coordination of these services, and avenues for participation by all members of our communities would be welcomed. The mission of Salute to Veterans is to address these critical needs. We have yet to meet one of our neighbors who does not wish to help these returning heroes. Our new organization is modeled upon a similar effort started by Melanie Kline in Montrose. They have a resource center where veterans can meet, discuss their specific needs, and be referred to the appropriate organization or individual resident for assistance.
Success in Montrose is the result of enthusiastic community-wide support. The scope and diversity of the volunteers and the services that they have offered has been excellent. This has meant that the reception by the veterans that they assist also has been one of appreciation and enthusiasm. All residents of our local communities in the Four Corners are strongly encouraged to learn more about Salute to Veterans and to become a volunteer.
A salute is an expression of honor, respect and gratitude. That is the welcoming and helpful environment that we all want to provide for our veterans.
For more information and a volunteer application, contact us at [email protected] or (970) 749-0607. Your participation certainly will be greatly appreciated by our veterans and their families. Our spectacular natural environment is a true blessing. Let’s pledge to make our social environment one of honor, gratitude and thankfulness that match that natural beauty.
