According to the College Entrance Examination Board in Princeton, N.J., test score data details that students who take fine arts courses in school score on average 150 points higher on their College Board tests. This is the most positive, long-term effect data we have seen. Music students are less likely to use alcohol and drugs in high school, get better grades than their counterparts, and are likely to be admitted to better colleges, a life-long benefit.

The Be FRANK Foundation, a 501(c)(3) based in Southwestern Colorado, provides affordable opportunities For the Recreational and Artistic Needs of Kids. In 2013 Executive Director Lech Usinowicz founded the Be FRANK Foundation to serve underprivileged students and families with high quality music education. To date, Usinowicz has developed 17 programs that encourage area youth to live meaningful and purposeful lives by getting them involved in music and outdoor education activities that stimulate their minds and connect them with their communities.

Our organization began with 13 students in an elementary orchestra program. We are proud to share that we now provide music courses, instruments, and private lessons to 297 elementary, middle, and high school students. Approximately 90 percent of our students and families rely on the Be Frank Foundation to provide them with instruments. The Be FRANK music ensembles are both co-curricular and extracurricular, and have represented our local communities by receiving first and second place scores in statewide competitions over the last several years; a clear indication of the students’ love for music and dedication to excellence.

It is our mission to provide low-income students and families with instruments. We are looking for individuals who embrace this vision and help to continue to these great opportunities for our youth.
