Prime real estate, too. The top two-thirds of C1 were devoted to three photographs and a teaser box to a story on Page C2 about the Chuckwagons of the West Association’s 43rd annual Chuckwagon Jamboree, which was held Sept. 3 at the Bar D Chuckwagon, 8080 East Animas Road (County Road 250).
The article, by Benjamin Rasmussen, said camaraderie among Western singing groups is strong – noting several of the bands joined forces at the after-party at Francisco’s Restaurante y Cantina to perform several song’s highlighted by Merle Haggard’s “Have You Ever Been to Colorado?”
Touted in the article is the entertainment value provided by chuckwagons across the West: cowboy songs, good grub and corny jokes.
Besides the chicken breast or roast beef dinner, a staple at the Bar D, attendees got a great night of music under the stars and the chance to hear jokes like:
“Did you know that when cows get scared, they hide in trees?”
“What are you talking about? I have never in all my years, seen a cow in the trees!”
“Well there, see how good they are at it.”
