First, I would like to point out that I have been riding mountain bikes in Horse Gulch since the beginning of time and that at the beginning of time, there were not that many people riding bikes in that area, nor were there trails. I would also like to point out that I helped build most of the trails that we are so privileged to ride daily. When I was a part of the build crews for Trails 2000, I never remember ever saying or hear anyone say, “Oh, this one here is an uphill-only trail.” I never heard it, but I did that Sunday.
There are many trails that I, personally, prefer to ride in only one direction. And there are a few that I have quit riding because they are difficult and I have aged. But the only one that I ever thought even came close to a downhill-only designation is Anasazi Descent. I have never really liked that one that much anyway and certainly would never consider riding up it. After all, it has “descent” in its name.
So, I ask, am I wrong? Do we have one-way trails out there or is this something that is in the mind of some enlightened individuals out there? To my mind, these riders were rude in two ways, first pointing out which way was up, and then, as downhill riders, not yielding the trail to an uphill rider. I could identify which trail I was on but my feeling is that no trail is one-way unless designated one-way. I know this is pretty trivial but I need to know.
