50 years ago: PAGOSA SPRINGS – “A possible site for a Job Corps camp is located on the San Juan National Forest about four miles north of U.S. 160 on the Piedra Road in the Piedra range district. The prime goal of the camps is to build character and to improve job qualifications of the youths enrolled.”
25 years ago: “The Mercy Health Foundation launched the area’s third major fund-raising campaign by announcing a nine-month drive to buy a new ambulance to serve La Plata County. The goal of $74,000 will replace the oldest of Mercy’s three ambulances, the Mercy Two, 1977 Ford that has logged 122,370 miles.”
