75 years ago: “Durango merchants and businessmen selected Nov. 30 as the date for closing their establishments in celebration of Thanksgiving Day. Since President Roosevelt has set Nov. 23 as Thanksgiving Day, and Governor Ralph Carr of Colorado has declared the state will celebrate on Nov. 30, and faced with the practical impossibility of closing both days, the choice of Nov. 30 was made.”
50 years ago: “TV fuzzy? It’s either a careless hunter, or one with an eye like Dan’l Boone. John Morrissey of Durango TV explained the fuzziness of the picture on a stray bullet, which punctured the main cable bringing signals down from Baldy Mountain.”
25 years ago: “A Farmington bank holding company has agreed to buy Burns National Bank of Durango. First Place Financial Corporation, the holding company that owns First National Bank of Farmington, will purchase Burns from Ambank Holding Company of Colorado.”
