75 years ago: An advertisement for J.C. Penney Co. read: “Be pretty for your next party! Rayon Moire taffeta dress. $3.98. Do the clothes you wear invite romance? Are they feminine in their appeal? This whispery rayon taffeta is trimmed with baby bows of velveteen, and you could easily wear a hoop under a full skirt! If you picture yourself quaint and demure – you’ll love it!”
50 years ago: “While the number of establishments which will close for Veterans Day is undetermined, a spokesman said that a poll showed that all new car franchised dealers will close their showrooms and shops on that day, Nov. 11.”
25 years ago: “Failing to stop the leasing of La Plata Community Hospital to Brim & Associates Inc. the first time around, the La Plata Medical Society is back with another motion before the court. Donald Rappe, secretary and treasurer of the medical society, filed a motion in District Court claiming the proposed lease is illegal and asking for an injunction to stop it.”
