75 years ago: “Mr. and Mrs. Fed Isgar and Charles Stilwell Jr., went a-voyaging down the Animas River Saturday and Sunday in a motor boat. Starting at Trimble Lake Saturday afternoon, the party traveled until dark. Sunday they resumed their journey. One of the purposes of the trip was to see where the ducks were holding out. Several were seen on the river.”
50 years ago: “Snow that fell wetly most of the day was blanketing the ground by nightfall as the flakes grew fatter and thicker. Concern was felt for the scores of high school students and other Durangoans who had driven to Denver to attend the Durango High School-Aurora Central football game.”
25 years ago: “A New Mexico man accused of robbing an Ignacio bank could be sentenced to 30 years in prison as part of a plea agreement with the U.S. District Attorney’s Office in Denver. Authorities arrested the man July 20, almost three weeks after a masked gunman robbed the United Bank of Ignacio and made off with more than $28,000 in cash. The gunman took a bank teller hostage and commandeered a pickup truck that was parked in the bank parking lot. The man released the teller unharmed and dropped more than $7,000 in cash before he escaped in an open field.”
