75 years ago: “A thrilling story of three Durango men who barely missed death in a snowslide and of three Animas City youths who were credited with saving the life of an elderly man injured in the slide, was told in Durango today.”

50 years ago: “With every other Sunday newspaper in the U.S., The Herald has shared an unsettling day – not knowing whether at the last minute the front page at least would have to be torn up if Sir Winston Churchill died before the last, immovable deadline. European newspapers, because of the advance in time, got through Sunday but are facing a similar period of uncertainty in preparation of early Monday editions.”
