75 years ago: “Bayfield will be given dial telephone service some time in August. Installation of the new dial service, to be fully modern and efficient will take some time.”
50 years ago: SILVERTON – “Silverton’s town council leased Molas Lake Park to Stanley Baldwin of Montrose on a lease-option basis for 30 years. Baldwin becomes leasor of the park for a 10-year period. At the end of the period, he has an option to renew for another 10 years. There is a second such option after 20 years. Baldwin has announced plans to develop the park into a tourist facility with cabins, restaurant, enclosed playground, and boating and camping facilities.
25 years ago: “The Durango Shelter for the Homeless, Inc., plans to establish a permanent shelter, but is looking for support from the community to determine the group’s direction. A location for the shelter and what services will be offered haven’t been determined, but the group hopes to have a facility open by September.”
