75 years ago: “Patrick and James McNamara, frisky youngsters of Mr. and Mrs. James McNamara are each minus their tonsils today, the offending members having been removed yesterday.”
50 years ago: IGNACIO – “Sgt. Ken Bowman and a crew from the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico arrived, dug a five foot hole in the ground three miles west of Ignacio, carefully recovered parts of an errant Athena missile, and went on to Green River, Utah from whence the missile was launched in February of 1964. … The Athena went astray Feb. 10, 1964 after it had been launched from Green River headed for White Sands. Some sections landed near the El Paso compressor station west of La Plata field.”
25 years ago: “Approximately 20 percent of La Plata County’s 16,439 registered voters cast ballots in the primary election, up from 14 percent voter turnout reported in the 1988 primaries.”
