75 years ago: “The 1941 Torpedo fleet is in, and Erwin Selby, who sells Pontiac Torpedoes, has devised a novel way of announcing the arrival of his fleet. Two Durango beauties – and they are just a sample of what grows here – dressed as Atlantic City sailor girls mounted on the hood of a 1941 Pontiac Torpedo, are riding through the streets of Durango, Silverton, Pagosa Springs and Rico and other of our sister towns, extending a printed invitation to visit the fleet anchored at the Selby-Pontiac company’s Durango ‘navy yard.’”
