50 years ago: “Testing of the 6,000-foot chair lift at the new Purgatory ski area 25 miles north of Durango on U.S. 550 probably will take place the end of this week. Opening date for the area is Dec. 15.”

25 years ago: “Congress has passed and sent to President Bush the fiscal 1991 energy and water appropriations bill which provides funds for Colorado energy and water projects. Included in the package is $13.4 million for the Animas-La Plata Project, $49 million for the Dolores project and $4.5 million for the Solar Energy Research Institute in Golden.”
