50 years ago: “This week’s storm has left two feet of snow at the top of Purgatory and two inches, settled, at the bottom. The storm also has deposited snow on all the mountain passes. … W.W. (Billy) Davies, Durango’s veteran weather observer, says to have 20 inches of moisture by this time of year (and Durango does this year) is unusual. The 67-year average of the entire year is just over 17 inches.”

25 years ago: “La Plata Electric Association’s board of directors told a group of Oxford and Bayfield residents that it will not halt construction of a transmission line between the two Amoco Production Co. substations in the southwestern area of the county. Several residents asked that work on the line be temporarily halted to give residents in the area a chance to review the construction and learn more about the project. The 115-kilovolt power line will eventually connect the Long Hollow Substation near Hesperus to the Amoco Production Co. gas compressor station in Cottonwood Gulch.”
