75 years ago: An advertisement for Durango Chick Hatchery, 17th and Main, read: “Baby chicks and custom hatching. Chicks from blood-tested flocks, lots of 100 or more, per 100 – $9; turkey eggs hatched each 5 cents; chicken eggs hatched each 3 cents.”

50 years ago: “La Plata Fire Volunteers and Durango city firemen had a busy day putting out fires, mostly brush fires, in rural areas and in the city.”

25 years ago: “A prominent Durango businessman crushed both feet when the home-built Hyperlight plane he was piloting nose-dived 50 feet into a hayfield. … He built the 245-pound ultralight plane from a kit in 1985 and flew around the area as a hobby.”
