50 years ago: “Civil Air Patrol planes and ground crews ended the fifth day of search with still no trace of the plane William H. Durall, 50, of Cortez vanished in last Tuesday. But they did find the wreckage of a plane that was lost April 8 on a flight from San Francisco to St. Louis. The hunt for that craft was called off a month ago.”

25 years ago: “Fireworks have been secured, but the local Homecoming Fireworks and Festival Fund still needs a shot in the arm to host a hero’s welcome for American veterans. To date, the fund is approximately $3,200 strong. That’s enough for a 25-minute fireworks show but short of providing a free picnic and dance during Welcome Home Week June 16-22.”
