75 years ago: Erwin DeLuche and family, of Cortez, visited the Idaho Mine, when the daughter’s puppy, a small terrier about 3 months old, jumped or fell down a 180-foot shaft. It “yelped twice as it fell.” Milt DeLuche and John Thomas “went down on the lifeline, expecting to find the puppy dead, but it was only knocked out.” They brought it up and “it seemed none the worse for its fall” a couple days later, “believe it or not.”
50 years ago: A mosaic designed and built by students who participated in the Fort Lewis College Upward Bound project was donated to the school after the eight-week program.
25 years ago: Fort Lewis College student Jeff Rottler and a wolf companion arrived at the southern terminus of the Colorado Trail at Junction Creek Road, completing a 469-mile hike from Denver in 66 days.
