75 years ago: It was announced that Bayfield would have “dial telephone service” installed sometime in late summer. The service was promised to be “fully modern and efficient.”
50 years ago: After being stranded by a late-December snowstorm in the Dryside area, 86 starving goats were taken by truck from a ranch in Marvel to New Mexico, according to La Plata County Sheriff Walter Conrad. Fifteen goats were dead when Fred Isgar of Marvel found them. It was not yet decided if charges would be brought against the owner of the goats.
25 years ago: A bag that contained $6,000 in cash, three Brazilian passports, three Italian passports and airline tickets was turned into Durango Police Department.
