75 years ago: “Five La Plata County men, winners of silver prize cups in the 1937 San Juan Basin Seed & Poultry Show, will be the defending champions at the 1938 show which opens Thursday morning at the Belmont Hall in Durango.”
50 years ago: “Water from the Lemon Dam area north of Durango began to flow again into the Florida River after a shutdown of 31 days. The water flow will continue unless something unusual turns up. Work remaining at the site consists mainly of final valve adjustments, electrical work and work on the head gates.
25 years ago: “La Plata County will fund the Southwest Safehouse $3,500 next year, according to final county budget figures. After initially granting the Safehouse no 1989 funding, the commissioners agreed to the compromise, down from $6,500 requested by the Safehouse, a shelter for battered women and children.”
