75 years ago: “The Colorado administrator for WPA, received presidential approval of $31,070 WPA project for continual operation of sewing rooms in La Plata County. The state department of public welfare and the La Plata Commissioners will distribute products of the sewing rooms to needy families and charitable institutions without charge.”

50 years ago: “Santa Claus will make his first 1963 appearance in Durango Nov. 29 when Durango Mayor R.E. (Pat) O’Brien turns on the downtown Christmas lights.”

25 years ago: “Settlements have been reached for claims rising out of January’s disastrous Continental Express plane crash near Durango well before federal authorities have determined a cause. An attorney for Continental Express said more than one settlement had been reached, although he didn’t divulge any more details.”
