75 years ago: “An unusually prolific goat may bring fame to Durango as soon as available statistics are checked, for this particular eater of tin cans bore four kids. Offspring of the goat which is owned by Tony Rivas at 377 Fourth Ave. are evenly divided as to color two black and two gray.”

50 years ago: This appeared in the section called Girl About Town: “BR of PEO met. Mrs. Roger Ptolemy gave an informative program on ‘How Does Your Garden Grow.’ She took each letter from the word Green Thumb and gave a helpful garden hint for it. As an example she said ‘G is for good soil, R is for right location’ and so forth.”

25 years ago: “The completion of the final phases of the Animas-La Plata Project may devastate the rafting industry, a Bureau of Reclamation official told Southwest Colorado water users. The Project Team Leader for the A-LP, said during his presentation at the seventh annual water seminar of the Southwestern Water Conservation District that there would be ‘significant impact’ on the white water boating that takes place on the Animas River once the full demand for water is realized from the proposed Ridges Basin Reservoir.”
