75 years ago: “Under the new Colorado game regulations passed by the recent assembly, all women are required to buy licenses to fish and hunt small game, if they wish to indulge in such sports. Women shall pay only one-half the regular fee for men which is $2. That makes the women pay only $1.”
50 years ago: “Nine Durango doctors have told the Sisters of Mercy they desire 7,000 square feet of space in their proposed $250,000 medical center south of the hospital. As a result, the Sisters announced they are proceeding full speed ahead making detailed plans ready for bids and in preparing formal leases.”
25 years ago: “Two fish in Cascade Creek died from diesel fuel spilled during a highway accident, and a couple were ‘acting strange,’ said an expert who visited the site. Overall, the effect on the stream from 150 gallons of diesel fuel ‘wasn’t too bad.’ A runaway tractor-trailer loaded with waferboard crashed through a guardrail and landed in Cascade Creek, about 27 miles north of Durango injuring the driver and a passenger.”
