75 years ago: The following appeared in the section titled Grange News: “The ‘Blossom Tea’ given by the Kitchen Klub was a great success. The hall was beautifully decorated with all kinds of flowers. Many Durango ladies as well as those of the valley, spent a very enjoyable afternoon playing cards.”
50 years ago: The following appeared in the section titled “Girl About Town”: “Milford Shields has received a note from the superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Rear Admiral C. S. Minter Jr., thanking him for his material concerning the song for the Waves and the song for the women marines. It’s to be placed in the Academy’s historical collection. The Waves song has been included in the repertoire of their choral group.”
25 years ago: “State and federal regulatory agencies announced here that they will recommend new policies prohibiting the shallow injection of gas-well waste water. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency officials credited local citizens for influencing the decision.”
