75 years ago: The following appeared in the section called Fort Lewis News: “The campus seems quite deserted since the students and a good many of the instructors have gone on their vacations, the students to their homes and the teachers to various parts of the country.”
50 years ago: “Wolf Creek Pass will be the scene of a new experiment in combatting the snow slide problem in Colorado’s mountain highways, when a snow shed is constructed, possibly in time for the 1964-65 snow season. An allocation of $600,000 will be used for the construction of a snow shed and approaches for the Alberta Slide on the east side of Wolf Creek Pass. This will be the first such shed on Colorado’s highway system.”
25 years ago: “Two La Plata County commissioners put the brakes on Stagecoach Resort when they split their vote on the developer’s appeal. On June 1, developer Howard Hicks appealed a February Planning Commission denial of the project, an 80-unit recreational vehicle park in Hermosa.”
