It offers many services that people who have suffered abuse can access when they are fighting to survive the impacts of domestic violence. Domestic violence affects a wide array of people causing an extreme emotional impact on its victims and their loved ones. Because of this emotional impact, Alternative Horizons, in addition to many other services, offers several clinical therapy programs.
Alternative Horizons offers play therapy and art therapy for children between the ages of 4 and 10. This therapy gives children a creative way to heal and express themselves. Alternative Horizons also offers individual therapy for teens and adults so they can get more one-on-one attention for their healing process. This can also include EMDR therapy which helps with them process the impact of traumatic events.
Alternative Horizons reaches out to the community with its clinical services. A counselor from AH goes to the Southwest Safehouse weekly to provide services to the survivors who are currently taking shelter there.
AH does proactive work by presenting information and materials about domestic violence to local schools, colleges, and organizations in its strong effort to educate the public and help end the cycle of violence. It is the mission of Alternative Horizons to provide support and alternatives to survivors of domestic violence and their families while striving to strengthen our community through education and prevention efforts.
If you or someone you know can benefit from the services at Alternative Horizons, please have them contact an advocate at 247-9619.
Together as a community we can help end the cycle of domestic violence.
