Trebek’s answer? “Louis L’Amour wrote many of his Western novels in room 222 of the Strater Hotel in Durango in this state.”
The response, a $1,600 value in the Double Jeopardy round, was, of course, our own Rocky Mountain state, or, in Jeopardese, “What is Colorado?” It was well-known Western author L’Amour who said the honky-tonk music rising from the Diamond Belle Saloon downstairs provided inspiration for some of his bestsellers.
Room 222 was designated a Literary Landmark by the American Library Association in 2012 after members of the Friends of the Durango Public Library nominated it for the honor.
