A 21-year-old man was found dead in a northeast Durango apartment on Friday night.
Durango Police Department Cmdr. Jacob Dunlop did not release the man’s name on Saturday.
He said officers received a call about 6:40 p.m. from a person, who was on the phone with the man when they heard a gunshot. The person wanted to report a possible suicide.
The reporting party did not provide officers with an address, so they proceeded to go to the caller’s potential address, which was in La Plata County, Dunlop said.
Officers contacted a person at the address, who directed them to another address in the 1200 block of Florida Road, he said.
Officers and detectives arrived at the apartment around 7:50 p.m. on Friday, he said. They were let in by a roommate of the deceased.
Inside the apartment, they found the 21-year-old man dead with a gunshot wound, Dunlop said.
“Officers and detectives attempted to contact neighbors in the surrounding apartments, but nobody answered the door or appeared to be at home at that time,” he said.
Dunlop said officers and detectives found no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances, and it appears the man took his own life.
An autopsy was scheduled to be performed on Monday.
