Health insurance knowledge, or health insurance literacy, helps you to make the best choice for you when you shop for health insurance. The more you know, the easier it is to understand the potential health benefits and the financial impacts of each plan. Knowing whether you can receive help in paying for your health insurance, and how to use insurance once you have it, are important factors in choosing insurance.
San Juan Basin Health Department (SJBHD) can help you learn about your health insurance options. Health Coverage Guides through Connect for Health, Colorado’s health insurance marketplace, is providing free in-person assistance with the enrollment process during Open Enrollment, Nov. 1 through Jan. 31, 2016. In addition, SJBHD’s Health Coverage Guides will provide outreach, training and mentorship for new and existing insurance counselors in the five-county region (Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata, Montezuma and San Juan) and tribal nations. SJBHD received $115,000 to provide these services.
In addition, SJBHD received $50,000 to fund the Healthy Communities program. In this program, the Family Health Coordinator provides clients with assistance in navigating the Medicaid and CHP+ health insurance programs.
