No one was injured, said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dan Bender.
Authorities were alerted at 9:20 a.m. by a registered nurse, who took the man’s wife to a second-floor bathroom where she barricaded the door and used the bathtub as a shield.
A four-member rapid-deployment team opened the front door of the residence and engaged the man, who was armed with a .30-caliber rifle, Bender said. The remaining member of the SWAT team remained on the periphery, he said.
The incident ended at 11:18 a.m. when the man left his rifle in the house and walked to the front porch.
The man was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center for observation, Bender said.
The wife and home-health aide remained in the bathroom during the incident, Bender said.
The recently acquired government-surplus armored vehicle was on scene in case the wife and home-health nurse had to be rescued, Bender said.
No charges were immediately filed against the man, Bender said.
