One of the many things the Durango Business Improvement District does to support businesses in the heart of Durango is to do our part to keep things looking as nice as possible. I need your help on two Fridays in late May to do just that.

BID has partnered with the Durango Chamber of Commerce for 23 years on Downtown Clean Day. BID and the Chamber are seeking about 100 volunteers to help us clean up in Downtown on May 22, just before our town gets busy for summer.

Please arrive around 8:30 a.m. at the Keller Williams Realty parking lot, on the east side of Main Avenue just north of 7th Street. We will have some morning treats for you to get your energy up. You can come in a team with your co-workers, friends or family, or you can come on your own. Either way, we will put all attendees into teams and assign you an area downtown to clean.

You do not need to bring anything except a water bottle. We supply all cleaning equipment, including brooms, dustbins, grabbers, scrapers, trash bags and work gloves. We will send your team on your way to your assigned area by 9 a.m., and most teams are done by 11 a.m. at the latest.

Registration in advance is requested by not required. Go to DurangoBusiness.org and click on “calendar” at the top of the page, then on “Downtown Clean Day” on May 22 to sign up.

BID is also bringing back North Main Clean Day on May 29. BID works for both downtown and the North Main District, which we define as from 14th Street all the way north to the city limits along both sides of Main Avenue. We are partnering with the Chamber on this cleaning day as well, and we need about 75 volunteers to help us make North Main look good.

Meet at the La Plata County Fairgrounds and Event Center by 8:30 a.m. Go to the back of the property and look for the picnic pavilion in between the two ball fields. We will check you in and have some light breakfast items for you. Just like the downtown event, you can come on your own or with a team. Attendees will be divided into teams and be assigned a two block stretch of North Main to clean. You do not need to bring anything, all supplies will be provided for you.

Thanks to Wendy Most State Farm Insurance, after your area has been cleaned you will come back to the Fairgrounds picnic pavilion and we’ll serve you a free BBQ lunch! Thank you to Wendy Most for her generous support. I also need to thank Sarah Shotts with Social Awkward Marketing for help with graphic design.

You can sign up for North Main Clean Day by going to DurangoBusiness.org and clicking on “calendar” at the top of the page, then on “North Main Clean Day” on May 29 to sign up.

Thanks in advance for helping us make the heart of Durango look great!
